  • You are the warden rather than the prisoner of your emotions. - Chris Hardwick
  • The third is the Carlos Castaneda quote "We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” It only makes sense to put your energy into being happy. Making that decision only brings positive energy into your life. People like being around happy people.

Episode 51b: You gotta BE!

Originally I was going to name this episode: I'm telling you guys, it's not a cult! But I listened to the Nerdist Episode "Microwave Beef." They were talking about Chris' birthday party. Jonah's go to kareoke song is "You gotta be." I have not heard this song in ages but I have no been able to keep it out of my head. So I recorded it. Yes I included it on this episode. YOU are welcome. This is my craziest episode to date. I apologize for rambling but hopefully you have fun listening!

Thank you for listening! Remember, do not give up what you want most for what you want right now! Larry Miller returns in 2013---if the Myans were wrong! But we all know they were! Opening Theme is "Open up wide" performed by the 2008 URI Marching Band. The closing theme is "Do it anyway" by Ben Folds Five. [youtube="http://youtu.be/VgICnbC2-_Y"]

Adam Carolla had LeVar Burton.  There wasn't much of a conversation with LaVar except for about Roots and Reading Rainbow.  They talked a bit about how he got into acting and how he got his first role in roots at the age of 19.  I hope LaVar is on Nerdist.  I would expect a more in depth conversation.  It is a mystery as to why Lavar called up Adam and told him to cut it out. Not a necessary episode if you are looking for some Lavar entertainment
  2. Nerdist has Billy West and John Dimaggio
    1. Billy west was recently on Adam Carolla: http://www.adamcarolla.com/billy-west/ This was so funny.  The interaction between Billy and Adam is priceless.  Worth the download.
    2. Billy West was on Rob Paulsen's Talkin' Toons #19 http://robpaulsenlive.com/episode-18-of-robs-weekly-podcast-is-out/
    3. Billy West was on an early Nerdist #49 http://www.nerdist.com/2010/12/nerdist-podcast-49-billy-west-not-ready-for-publication-yet/
    4. John Dimaggio was on the latest Rob Paulsen's Talkin' Toons #47 http://robpaulsenlive.com/episode-47-guest-john-dimaggio/

I'll be ending with a word from Larry Miller himself.  It was good to hear from him.  The sad part is that it sounds as if he'll be out for a while.  In the mean time please please please go and subscribe the This Week with Larry Miller.  His stories are great! He is funny and delightful.  Larry, I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.  I miss you and I love you!

Welcome to the third and final installment to the Post Nerdist LA show.

  1. The Duke Spirit: http://thedukespirit.com They played two songs. The first song was The Step and The Walk off their album Neptune.  The second was the new single off their album Glorious.  The band is straight up rock.  There are lots of heavy bass and drum beat.  The lead singer reminds me a bit of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane/ Jefferson Starship).  The Duke Spirit is an oasis In the world of over produced pop fluff and auto tuning.

Summary:

       * Dave Hill was on Alison Rosen (the news girl for Adam Carolla) podcast, http://alisonrosen.com/2012/06/ariynbf-118-with-dave-hill/
       * Dave Hill at the Boston Improv
          * The Under Shirt
          * All in all it was a great night!  I got lost on the way home.  It was special that after 30 mins I ended up back where I started, passing the Boston Improv.  It was really special when I passed the Wilbur.  Oh memories...and not the best ones either.  I fail to understand why I get myself lost getting out of Boston. You'd think I'd have this by now.  But I have the sense direction of Ryoga Hibiki from Ranma 1/2.
       * The Boston Improv would make a really awesome venue for Nerdist.

RIP Greg Ham of Men at Work

The toughest part of this whole process has been the lack of feed back.  I have been trying to tweak the podcast by what I feel I like.  The problem is that I don't like listening to me.  So it is basically all shit to me.  I finally received some feed back.  The consensus is that I start off well then babble.  So this week I took a deep breath and really became the producer of my own podcast.  I hope you enjoy the results.

Recommendations:It's a double animation recommendation week!! The hard work of both groups of people create the awesome art that is animation.  You really cannot have one without the other.  If you are an animation (cartoon and anime) junkie like me, both are well worth your time.

    Get Well Larry Miller!

In this episode I will talk about:

    • Larry J. Miller! He was on an episode of "You Made it Weird" He also has his weekly podcast called "This Week with Larry Miller." He had a bad accident the other week. He is expected to fully recover. But they did re-post an episode this week. It is a good episode so go take a listen. But get well soon!!!!
    • My podcast is the red headed step child if Nerdist got it on with This week with Larry Miller and enjoyed a burrito afterwards. Now that's an image. Ok, this is only in my dreams but maybe one day? I'll be funny and inspirational but hopefully not bald. mmm...I'm going with silly with a touch of whimsy. Clearly I miss but...gotta keep trying.
    • It has been a tough week for everyone so I want to look at the positive stuff that happened.
    • I totally am not upset about being stood up by Nerdist for the 4th time. They did eventually reschedule but I'm really irritated. I do understand
    • Kickstarter is awesome. Both the projects I backed got funded! I donated to the Inspector Spacetime project. Also the Zack meets the Zombie book got funded!! It was tense there for a while.
    • I friended Ron Paulsen on FB. Honestly I rather he follow my twitter. I do more funny stuff there. NARF!
    • Recommendations of the week: Check out Scott Sigler on Nerdist! I've been following him on and off since 2005. If you like him then might I recommend Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff . His stories are really cool. I would also recommend Mike Bennett "One Among the Sleepless" is soooo good!!

I end the podcast by attempting Larry Miller's brilliant pod closer

Opening and closing songs are from the 2008 URI Ram Band. Opening song is "Get it on" and closing theme is "Voodoo"

In this episode I talk about the comedy central taping.  I got hang out with Gillian.  We saw the show twice.  Chris said hi to us.  I got a Chris Hardwick hug (tm pending).

I also met Chloe Dystra.  I was luke warm in my description of her.  The gentlemen around us asked "Who is that hot babe."  I told them it is the game reviewer and cosplay specialist Chloe Dystra.  She is very tall.  She was wearing heels.  I was not.

Ok, I'm hobbit sized so EVERYONE is taller than I am!!!  I get this. Nevertheless..she is very tall, young and beautiful.

    • Seating audition (I'm not last chair but I'm still playing second.  I need to practice more,)
    • Nerdist Live & Smodcast live
    • Art House review: It is a fun movie.  If you are a fan of Chris Hardwick you'll want this movie.  If you are a fan girl/ fan boy you NEED this movie.
    • Zombies vs. Gladiators: I want to live in a world where this movie is a thing!!!  I will start reading from this awesome script next show.
    • The ending song for the show is Shadow Rituals All-State Concert Band.  It was the song for my seating audition.

Your time is limited.  Make sure you spend some of it on things that help your long term contentment.

I wonder if I should call this the "I'm not Chris Hardwick's fan girl even though every podcast mentions Nerdist in some form or another."  But seriously, I have lots of fun talking about things.  I talk about the suprising number of downloads.

There will be at the min of two more Nerdist Live shows.

Fun Fact:  It's really Jonah that I'm after until being his fan girl became too mainstream.  ;-)

SaxyNerdist (New nickname?) heads to DC.  Yes it was my 4th live Nerdist Podcast.  I give a quick review of the show.  Lesson from the show: Chris IS half Italian and you should not piss him off.  Seriously.  Don't do it.

I give shout outs and do a 10 min quemment.

If you like the quemment then pass it over to the Nerdist.
